All Dogs/Cats over seven (7) months and over must be licensed. All licenses expire yearly on January 31 and new licenses must be obtained annually. A reminder will be sent to all current license holders. Fees are as follows:

• Spayed/neutered dog: $15.00
• Non-neutered/spayed dog: $18.00
• Spayed/Neutered cat: $12.00
• Non-neutered/spayed cat: $15.00

Starting in January, license renewals can be mailed or brought to the Registrar’s Office in Borough Hall. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF ALTERING IF YOU HAVE DONE SO IN THE PAST. If your animal has been spayed or neutered since it was last licensed, proof must be provided.

Rabies vaccinations cannot expire before October 31st of the licensing year. If our records show that your pet’s rabies vaccination has expired or will expire before this date, a copy of your pet’s updated rabies certificate must be provided.

A late fee of $5.00 will be imposed if the license application is brought to the office or postmarked after February 28 of the licensing year.

If you no longer own your dog or cat, please notify the Registrar’s office so that your pet can be removed from the system.

The Borough of Metuchen contracts with Edison Township for animal control services. Please contact Edison Animal Shelter/Animal Control at 732-248-7278 for issues with:

• Stray domestic animals
• Deceased domestic animals on Borough property
• Sick or injured wildlife
• Rabies clinic information

For small, deceased wildlife on Borough property, call the department of Public Works at 732-632-8518.

For removal of deer carcasses, please call the non-emergency Police number, 732-632-8500.
