Recreation Department Information

The Borough of Metuchen Recreation Department sponsors activities and events to enhance the quality of life for Metuchen residents of all ages. Whether it is our popular annual events such as our sports camps, parades, classes and clinics or special one-time events, we strive to ensure residents have a wide variety of recreation programs from which to choose in all seasons.  

Registrations and Membership Fees for Recreation Programs/Camps and Municipal Pool are non-refundable 
(unless a program is cancelled by Recreation or the service provider), so please make sure your selections are correct before finalizing your registration. Payments are via credit/debit card or eCheck with a transaction fee from the processor.

  • Tennis Court Lights @ Oakland Park - Light are off from November 15 and remain off until April 15.
  • Lights on Charles and Myrtle Fields are only activated with a permit. To purchase a permit from the Recreation Department - download a Field Reservation Application Packet and send to Recreation Department at 15 Center Street or email recreation@metuchen.com with all required paperwork. Allow 15 days for the application to be reviewed, availability determined, and fee assessed.
  • Edgar Field - Closed for Construction through the Winter of 2023.
  • Permit Holders must have permit with them at park as proof of permission to use facility.

Field Application Process:

  1. Fill out Application
  2. Return Application to Recreation Department with additional required documents.
  3. Return Hold Harmless and Attestation from applicant.
  4. Return Hold Harmless for all activity participants.
  5. Return Certificate of Insurance - if required.
  6. Return Non-Profit proof of status - if claiming to be a Non-Profit.
  7. Application will be reviewed by Borough Clerk and Recreation Department, if all information is proper, the facility calendar will be checked.
  8. If facility is available we will calculate rental fee and notify applicant of availability and fee, or will notify applicant if facility is not available and any alternatives.
  9. Applicant has 96 hours to make payment upon being notified by Recreation of approval.  Payments must be made through the online registration system with a credit or debit card, or echeck. Cash, checks, cashier checks, nor money orders are accepted.
