Middlesex Water Company Water Main
Water main installation work along Durham Avenue in the area of Hampton Street to Jersey Avenue has started. Portions of the work between the Metuchen Sportsplex and the intersection of Durham and Jersey Avenue will be installed by trenchless methods. Trenchless technology installs underground infrastructure without disturbing the ground above along the route. However it requires an excavation to remain open for the duration of the installation. It will require a single lane closure on Durham Avenue 24 hours per day while the work is taking place. Durham Avenue from John Street to Central Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic starting from August 12, 2019 to accommodate the installation of this section of 42-inch water main. The work will run approximately 5 weeks depending on weather and production. Signage has been erected advising motorists of detours.
