2026 Master Plan Update

The Borough of Metuchen is excited to be updating its master plan – that is, a Master Plan Reexamination Report and a “strategic update” of its Land Use Plan Element. This master planning effort will review the prior master plans, assess what has changed in the past 10 years, establish the Borough’s vision, outline key goals, and identify strategies to implement the community’s shared vision and help guide land development for the next 10 years.

The Borough first adopted its master plan in 1959, and the last major update was in 1983. In the most recent reexamination report, in 2016, one of the recommendations was to “prepare a Vision Plan with community involvement that establishes where Metuchen is today, where it wants to go in the future; laying out a roadmap for getting there.”

It is now time to prepare a Vision Plan, and we want to hear from you. Your participation is paramount to the success of this project!

On this page, you will find information about this master planning effort and how you can participate, including some answers to some frequently asked questions below.
