The Borough of Metuchen highly recommends utilizing the payment methods outlined below to remit your 2nd quarterly tax payments to limit the personal interaction during the COVID19 Crisis:
- Utilize your online banking system
- Mail your payment to Borough Hall to the attention of the tax collector
- Place in Borough Drop Box that is behind Borough Hall to the attention of the tax collector
- Make payments via the Borough sponsored website which does include a transaction fee.
In the extreme circumstance where the above methods of payment are impossible, please call the Tax Office to schedule an appointment at 732-632-8511.

A division of the Finance Office, the Tax Collector bills and collects all property taxes. The Tax Collector is responsible for the enforcement procedures for unpaid municipal charges which includes holding an annual tax sale for unpaid municipal charges. All unpaid municipal charges are subject to Tax Sale. Other responsibilities of the Tax Collector’s office include maintaining records for municipal and third party liens, tax sale records, ledger for assessment of local improvements and reconciliation of all receipts. The Tax Collector reports all cash and non-cash transactions on a regular basis to the Finance Officer, Borough Administrator and Governing Body.
Tax searches are completed by the Tax Search Officer. Upon examination of the tax records, she certifies all unpaid municipal charges.
Taxes are due:
- February 1st,
- May 1st,
- August 1st and
- November 1st.
Payments received after the 10 day grace period will be charged interest from the due date
No other bills are sent throughout the year, unless you have an added assessment on your property or a special assessment for sewer, sidewalk or curbs.
The Tax Office is located at 500 Main Street and is open Monday-Friday to accept tax payments in person or mail your check made payable to "Borough of Metuchen" to:
